The catfish bite at Lake Overcup in Conway County is reportedly slow these days, but one blue catfish made up for all the waiting for one fisherman in recent days. According to Johnny Banks, owner of the Overcup Bait Shop and RV Park, Carl Prince pulled in a 71-pound blue catfish. Prince was using a floaty with shad and the big blue took hold. The 71-pounder, measured at the bait shop, is a record for Overcup, Banks said. Meanwhile, Banks reported that the lake level is high by about 2 feet. Clarity is murky, but it’s improving. Water surface temperature is about 45 degrees. Bass are doing well around brushtops and structure. Bream are slow, but anglers are still catching some with redworms. Crappie are being caught on yo-yos at night. Anglers are not catching a lot, but are catching some good ones on small No. 4s.
