YSSA Announces 2013 Grant Cycle Selection

The Youth Shooting Sports Alliance (YSSA) has announced the priority youth shooting sports programs selected for the 2013 grant cycle. The 53 youth shooting sports programs approved to be supported with equipment and supplies to address their respective limiting factors to growth will soon be listed on YSSA’s website www.youthshootingsa.com.

The shooting sports industry receives numerous requests annually from youth and social organizations seeking financial and product support. As a service to the shooting sports industry, the YSSA provides guidance as to which of these programs should be considered as priority in having the greatest return on investment measured by projected program growth and participation.

The YSSA utilizes an annual National Youth Shooting Sports Program Needs Assessment to aid in identifying limitations to program growth attributed to the need for shooting sports equipment and supplies. Invitations to participate in this year’s Assessment were sent to National 4-H Shooting Sports State Coordinators; the National Royal Rangers office; Boy Scout Councils; and other youth organizations that requested to be added to the invitation list for this year’s assessment

The YSSA reviewed proposals submitted in response to the invitation in the context of their contribution to the future market goals of the industry. These proposals were judged in the following categories:

1. Current and projected participation level
2. Diversity of shooting disciplines accommodated
3. Uniqueness of program
4. Probability of obtaining equipment needed to fulfill the request
5. Efficiency of use of donated product
6. Visibility and public relations value

The Youth Shooting Sports Alliance is a 501 (c)(3) private foundation whose mission is to identify and support the needs of successful and safe youth programs.
