Record Walleye Numbers

Lake SakakaweaIf you’ve spent any time out on the water this summer, you’ve probably noticed plenty of people casting a line. And there’s a reason for that. North Dakota lakes were stocked with a record amount of walleye fingerlings. One hundred ten lakes now have 11 million new fish. This is partly because there’s an increase in state lakes. And on top of that, a record number of fishing licenses were sold last year– 2 hundred-eighteen thousand. And the future looks even better.”Last year was a record year-two million days of fishing in North Dakota,” says Greg Power, Fisheries Chief of ND Game and Fish Department. “Lots of participation. Ice fishing and open water fishing. Now this year, fast-forward  to this summer, we have all kind of reports, indications of even more effort.” Lake Sakakawea was stocked with 4 million of the 11 million walleye, which were distributed across the state.
