Yamaha Marine Group said today that it added the F175 outboard to its group of inline four-cylinder engines and launched a new series of high- performance aluminum propellers for its mid-range outboards. The brand-new F175 joins the V MAX SHO 150 and F200, which are based on Yamaha’s new 2.8-liter in-line four-cylinder platform. The V MAX SHO 150 and F200 are winners of a 2013 IBEX Innovation Award.
“This motor will broaden the line and be particularly valuable for all boats with transoms limited to 175 horsepower, as well as some in-shore applications,” Yamaha Marine Group president Ben Speciale said in a statement. “The F175 is another super-versatile motor with great repower potential for a variety of boats, from bay to deep-vee, aluminum and more.”
Like its 2.8-liter siblings, Yamaha said, the F175’s four-cylinder, 16-valve dual overhead camshaft powerhead breathes easily and responds quickly, with a sophisticated and proven valve train design.
The F175 also uses a single-throttle intake valve and Yamaha’s long-track intake tubes for easy breathing. A knock sensor allows the engine to run at peak efficiency and performance at all rpm, Yamaha said.
The F175 is expected to begin shipping in the second quarter.
Yamaha said the new propellers are standard-equipped with the exclusive Shift Dampener System, which the company said brings no-clunk, quiet operation to a broader range of boats.
Named Talon, the new propellers were designed specifically for larger Yamaha mid-range outboards and have an all-new blade architecture that the company said is perfect for pontoon, walleye, deep-vee and fiberglass boats.
Yamaha said the propellers bring a new level of quiet and comfort to Yamaha outboards from the F70 up to the F115, and the high-thrust T50 and T60, as well. The propeller series features a new, replaceable SDS hub that requires no special hardware for proper operation.
“Now you don’t have to be an offshore boater to have smooth and quiet operation when shifting or trolling,” Yamaha product information and propeller manager David Meeler said in a statement. “Talon propellers give you the smooth and quiet operation of SDS and performance from an aluminum prop that has to be felt to be believed. These are high-performance aluminum propellers that are perfect for the mid-range segment of the boat market.”
Talon propellers feature a high-efficiency, low-slip design, have a 13.5-inch diameter, and are available in 9-inch, 10.5-inch, 12-inch, 14-inch, and 16-inch pitches. Yamaha said they not only greatly reduce the clunk that is sometimes associated with shifting, but also provide smooth and quiet in-gear operation, even at very low speeds. This is of particular benefit for outboards using in-line cylinder designs, the company said.
The new propellers are expected to be available in the early spring.
