Garmin International today introduced a software update for the GPSMAP 8000 Glass Helm Series and its newest series of chart plotters and combination units. “Virtually every angler, boater or sailor can benefit from this latest software update,” Garmin media relations associate Wes Owen told Trade Only Today. “Bringing DownVu and SideVu — our down- and side-scanning sonar technology — to the GPSMAP 8000 Series opens up a new realm of finding fish and structure to the coastal angler. New internal sonar sharing options bring new capabilities to the inland fisherman, and improved sailing features that provide a wind and heading gauge along with user-specified data bars benefits the sailor.”
The latest plotters and combination units include expanded GCV 10 compatibility, further networked sonar capabilities and Garmin Helm for Android devices. The update allows owners of the GPSMAP 8000 Glass Helm Series to use the GCV 10 sonar black box. Also, multiple sonar black boxes can now exist on the same system. This capability provides integrated sonar and the ability to switch between GSD 26 CHIRP sonar and GCV 10 scanning sonar.
