Seattle Times Reported First: A few state records were officially verified this summer by state Fish and Wildlife. David Hickman of Richland broke the tiger muskie record with a 37.88 pound fish he caught July 26 in Curlew Lake in Ferry County using a white spinner bait. The fish was 50.38 inches long. The new record tiger muskie record beat out the previous record set in 2001, and held by John Bays of Chehalis with a fish caught in Mayfield Lake in Lewis County.
Shaylynn Bird Sullivan from Sierra Vista, Arizona, caught a 0.45 pound prickly sculpin July 1 from the Columbia River in Chelan County. Sullivan hooked it by trolling a shrimp just downstream of the Rocky Reach Dam.
Sullivan beat the previous record a 0.41 pound fish caught in 208 by Jeff Frederick at Priest Rapids Lake in Grant County.
Josiah Brenner, age 9, of Vashon set a new state record when he caught a 0.76 pound Pacific staghorn sculpin on Aug. 3 at Tramp Harbor in King County.
Brenner caught the fish on a herring, and was half a pound heavier than the old record from 2000 held by John Moore who caught the fish at Padilla Bay in Skagit County.
