Swordfish are inherently aggressive, but this is one we haven’t heard before. Billfishreport.com reports that a 400 pound swordfish attacked a small piloted submersible that was working underwater on an oil rig off the coast of Brazil last week. The swordfish became stuck (see photos) in the sub’s outer structure. The sub’s operator used the robotic arm on the sub to restrain the tail of the fish, and prevent further damage on the fish and machine. After surfacing, the swordfish was removed, but had suffered fatal injuries. sdfish.com is the source of this news.
