On September 17th, angler Candace Kern caught and released a beautiful 17.69 kg (39 lb) red drum (Sciaenops ocellatus) that could potentially earn her the new women’s 8 kg (16 lb) tippet class record. Kern needed only 15 minutes to land the trophy redfish after it ate the black/purple fly she presented to the fish in the waters off Port Aransas, Texas, USA. The current IGFA record is 15.2 kg (33 lb 8 oz).
