An invasion of eating machines is headed for one of our most precious fisheries. Using a system of canals around Chicago, Asian carp are poised to infiltrate the Great Lakes and devastate native species. Fortunately, a bill called the Defending Our Great Lakes Act has been introduced inCongress to keep them out.
What’s at stake? In some areas of the Mississippi River basin where Asian carp have taken over, they now comprise up to 97% of fish biomass. If they get into the Great Lakes, they will starve out walleye, trout, and salmon just as easily.
What can you do? Email your legislators today and ask that they support the Defending Our Great Lakes Act.
