Alabama fishing guide to offer program for cancer victimsIt’s scary. Being diagnosed with cancer is a set back. It shakes you up and gives you introspection that can result in a new purpose in life. That is especially true if you are a survivor. Brian Barton is a survivor. “Fortunately, my cancer was diagnosed early and removed before invading the lymph nodes in my neck,” proclaimed Barton. “In the weeks following my surgery, I began to realize how truly blessed I was, but I also became keenly aware that there are so many others who are not as fortunate in their battles with chronic illnesses.”

Barton’s 2013 experience with cancer led him to begin a nonprofit charitable organization called Cat-Fishing for Christ. Cat fishing is right down Barton’s alley. He is a catfish guide on Pickwick and Wilson Lakes in Alabama and knows the joy of putting clients on big catfish and he wants to spread that joy to another class of anglers.

“As far as the C.F.C. program, my goal is to provide someone who may have a short time to live or a very seriously ill individual, with a relaxing day of fishing and fun to forget their problems, if for only a short while,” explained Barton.

Barton relates his motives to one of his favorite movie lines. “It was Bill Murray in ‘What about Bob’ that said, ‘I’m taking a vacation, a vacation from my problems.’” Barton wants to supply such a vacation to cancer victims.
