National Rifle Association of America, Institute For Legislative ActionSouth Carolina: Pro-Gun Legislation Progresses through Legislature – Today, H. 4398 passed the House Judiciary Committee’s General and Family Laws Subcommittee and will now move to the full House Judiciary Committee for further consideration.  Additionally, the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee hearing for both H. 3025 and H. 3799 has been rescheduled for next week.

Iowa: Hearing Protection Act Vote Postponed to Tomorrow
Today, House File 2279, the Hearing Protection Act, was scheduled for its final Senate vote.  This vote was postponed until tomorrow morning.  Please continue to contact your state Senator in SUPPORT of the Hearing Protection Act.

Idaho: Permitless Carry Bill Passes the Senate
Today, March 16, Senate Bill 1389, NRA-endorsed permitless carry legislation, passed the Senate with a 27-8 vote.  SB 1389 was sent to the House of Representatives where it has been scheduled for a hearing in the House State Affairs Committee tomorrow, March 17, at 8:00am.  Please contact members of the House State Affairs Committee and politely urge them to SUPPORT SB 1389.

71-year-old defends himself during attempted armed robbery, WAVY, Hampton Roads, Va. 03/13/16, WTKR, Hampton Roads, Va. 03/14/16
A pair of robbers, at least one of whom was armed with a gun, approached a 71-year-old man in Hampton, Va. and demanded cash. The elderly man responded by drawing a gun and firing at one of the robbers, striking and killing him, and causing his accomplice to flee. Police apprehended the surviving robber a short time later. Following the incident, Hampton Police Public Information Officer Ashley Jenrette told a local news outlet, “The victim did fear for his safety. He was cooperative. He called 911, he remained on scene so officers could speak with him…he will not be charged.”

Rifle found at El Chapo hideout tied to Fast and Furious
One of the guns that Mexican officials say was found at the hideout of drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera has been found to be associated with Fast and Furious, a failed “gun-walking” operation, according to the Justice Department.

As the White House prepares to choose a nominee for the Supreme Court, they are continuing to suggest that they might nominate a supposed “moderate.” But Garland has a long record, and, among other things, it leads to the conclusion that he would vote to reverse one of Justice Scalia’s most important opinions, D.C. vs. Heller, which affirmed that the Second Amendment confers an individual right to keep and bear arms.

The group created by former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords to push for tighter control on the sale of guns is merging with a group focused on the legal issues surrounding gun control.The merger, announced Wednesday, brings together the notoriety of Giffords’ Americans for Responsible Solutions in Washington with the legal acumen of the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence in San Francisco.
