The Camp Pendleton Catch 22 Event was a huge success this last Saturday on beautiful Lake O’Neil on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA. I bet some of the readers are intrigued in why the number twenty two? It’s significance and importance is 22 serviceman/servicewomen & veterans commit suicide every month. Active duty, veterans, retirees, and the local community need to put a stop to it by raising awareness to clue everyone that our government’s medical facilities aren’t doing enough for these individuals that are in need of a cry for help due to suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) from serving in combat missions in Iraq & Afghanistan.
There were a over 40 participants/anglers that contributed by fishing in a tournament for this event. There were a few categories to include shore fisherman, kayakers, float tubers, to include a couple bass boats. Snag Proof Pro Staff members, Frank Tellez & Jason Smartt were on hand to commemorate and organize the event. Frank fished the tourney & Jason worked the park grounds to include setting up the venue for the weigh-in & awards ceremony.
The fishing was extremely tough due to the spawning period. The bass were buried way back inside the overgrown and slumping Tulles & were extremely difficult to get to. No frog fish were caught, but the anglers did try to entice some bass in blowing up on some Snag Proof Frogs, but no takers! However, there were few lucky anglers manage to grind it out and bring a couple Largemouth to the scales. The biggest fish of the tourney was a nice 4.13 pound bass. The second big fish of the tourney was 3.46 pound bass. Snag Proof Pro Staffer, Frank Tellez managed to come to the scales with third largest fish of the tourney with a solid 3.30 pound Largemouth.
All in all, over $1500.00 was raised in supporting this event. Everyone had fun and went home happy.
