As normal, all sorts of things got in the way of heading out earlier in the Ranger, including shooting a couple of new videos for Shoot ‘N’ Plink™.
So, the fishing started late. The first lure used was a TTI-Blakemore Slab Daddy since I was going to see if I could get some more big crappie to hit. Sure enough I did, but lost him. Then I caught a bluegill.
At this point I decided to pull out the Natural Forage Baits Lil Killer, and do some finger jigging. Not long afterwards was the first bass of the day – a 16 incher.
That was it for the Lil Killer. So, I pulled out the black/blue Blitz Lures LLC Spyder Jig with matching NFB Mad Craw, and another fish was the results. In all I caught 3 bass, the largest hitting 17 inches, on the jig and Mad Craw combo.
Eight more bass came on the Yellow Perch Rat-L-Trap. Thank heavens Richard Broadwell got some to me in time for this weeks fishing. He also sent some of the Bleeding Shiner series, which caught a few fish yesterday. However, the Yellow Perch is still weaving its magic.
The best retrieve for both the jig and Rat-L-Trap is a sidewise rod sweep in 1 to 3 feet pulls, with a pause as the slack is wound back up. The hits on the Trap came just as the lure started to fall, or just as it started to be pulled again. Hits on the jig were all as it was pulled loose from weeds, which is where all the fish were holding in deeper water.
My best “photo fish” was not taken, as I wanted to get it back in the water as quickly as possible after having to take a little time to safely unhook the Trap without serious injury to the fish.
Until next time, get out on the water, and enjoy a great day of fishing.
