After taking Pepper to the vet and running a few errands I decided to go fishing. It was cold and a little windy – what’s new. In fact, it was cold enough that I had an icing problem in my casting reel. It didn’t get warmer until around 3:30.
Fishing was not great. The lakes are turning over, but the water is also very cold.
Normally the Blitz Lures LLC Blade would do the trick in the colder water, but not this time. Once again it was Natural Forage Baits green shad Swim Bait, rigged on a BFishn Tackle H20 Precision jig head that did the trick. I caught a couple of nice size bass, one small one, and had something that broke 8 pound test Nanofil line. The big one was fun for a few minutes, but finally snapped. It could have been a big catfish.
The best retrieve was a slow steady speed, with the lure kept so that it would hit into the tops of any weeds that were encounter. The fish were in these weeds.
