“Never leave fish to find fish,” or so goes the sage angling axiom. Those who spend ample time on the water understand the practicality of such fishing truisms. And as sick as our kids and spouses may be of hearing them, these pearls of wisdom have metaphorical value that translates well to our lives on dry land.
Traditions Media, a legacy and pioneering provider of fishing-, hunting- and shooting-focused public relations and marketing services, is pleased to announce the promotion of Dena Vick to Director of Fishing and Marine Marketing Strategy and Communications.
“We could have trolled the industry and found multiple candidates to meet our needs,” says Traditions Media President, Noel Vick, “but the best fit for this critical position was already in our tackle box – all puns intended. We’re excited to be in a position where we can start leveraging Dena’s extensive knowledge, passion and expertise for even more of our clients.”
Dena is well known to the fishing industry, serving her clients for the past several years as Traditions Media’s senior media buyer, social media manager and lead account representative for St. Croix Rods. Additionally, she serves the greater recreational fishing community as a member of the American Sport Fishing Association’s (ASA) 60 in 60 Committee, which is tasked with engaging the sport fishing industry to develop new programs and support existing ones that increase recreational fishing participation to 60 million before the end of 2021.
“Of course, we work with the great companies who recruit Traditions Media to represent their brands and products, but our real customers are the heroes of the outdoor media and, ultimately, their customers – the passionate readers, listeners, viewers and followers who consume information and make individual purchasing decisions,” Dena says. “So, in addition to overseeing the creation and distribution of a compelling flow of content, I’ll be spending a lot of my time in direct communication with individual writers, bloggers, broadcasters and influencers making sure that we’re providing them with the kind of help that best supports their specific communications, work and assignments.”
Dena earned a B.A. in Marketing from the University of Arkansas and M.A. in Professional Communication from Purdue University. She’s a past communications director for the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism and has edited several publications. Dena is supported by all Traditions Media team members, but principally by senior communications specialist and copywriter Jim Edlund, copywriter Tom Schlichter and assistant media buyer and project manager Lane Uherka.
“A bad day of fishing is still better than a good day at the office.” True. That’s why the Great Outdoors is an extension of every Traditions Media team member’s office, including Dena’s. Like her coworkers, Dena delivers authenticity to her clients by spending ample hours on the water and in the field. In addition to fishing and hunting whenever possible, she’s an avid cyclist who competes on both mountain bikes and road bikes. Contact Dena at Dena@TraditionsMedia.com.
