The excitement of bowhunting is fueled by getting close to the game you are after. Seeing the whites of the beast’s eyes, watching the steam flowing out of its nostrils and getting so close you can smell each other. No doubt this makes for exciting hunts and great video. But hunting is also about filling tags and adapting to the conditions. Things rarely go as planned, like on my five day elk hunt in New Mexico where the only shot opportunity I had was from 83 yards on the final day.
I knew I would take criticism from folks after I shared the story. Some believe it was unethical. A lot can go wrong when you ask an arrow to go 80 yards. Some say I might as well be hunting with a rifle if I am going to shoot that far. I say an individual’s ethics are not always defined by the moral compass of others. Read more….
