We’re deep into the deer hunting season now. Are you and your deer lease club members doing all you can to manage the whitetail population? That’s what you’re there for you know. A boom in the deer population is always eminent. The result would be bad for all concerned; the land, forest, vegetation and the health of the deer herd. That’s why the harvest limits have to rise every year or so, to control the numbers.
So what do I mean by doing your part? As a club, are you guys harvesting the does also as a part of the management of the habitat? I like rules in a club that requires you to take two does for every buck taken. Sounds like you’re being greedy. You’re not. The deer herd as described by the Department of Natural Resources needs more does taken.
Work within the rules and limits. The forest, deer herd and your lease will be the better for it.
