I could not be more excited for this coming winter!
Why?
Simply because the long-range forecast is looking like hardwater will soon be upon us, and this little fizzing ball that I hold within my hand!
A new company by the name of BaitCloud has emerged from among a sea of scent companies but with a unique way of attracting fish to a specific area.
It doesn’t only snap, crackle and pop; it stimulates by tickling all three senses through sight, sound and smell. Simply toss a BaitCloud ball into the water and instantly watch this baby go to work! It immediately begins a fizz-like reaction releasing bubbles and the impregnated fish attracting oils creating a cloud of scent throughout the area. Some formulas have biodegradable glitter to mimic bait-fish scales for further attraction to the clouded zone as well.
So is this just another late-night infomercial gimmick?
Absolutely not.
I personally have tested this fizzy ball during last winter, fishing bluegills on late-season ice. I met up with Italo Labignan, host of the Canadian Sportfishing television show earlier this year in Toronto where he offered me a couple to try.
I was fishing in an area with little to no current in about 12 feet of water. After I was set up, I dropped a ball down my hole and followed it with my underwater camera. In no time at all, I had bluegills and pumpkinseeds all around me checking out this bubbling spectacle. There’s no question, the BaitCloud did what it was supposed to do; attract fish.
I was quite impressed at how fast the freshwater piranhas swam in and started to congregate. And I also found it amusing to watch them bite at the bubbles, sort of like trying to eat the scent-cloud itself.
The bubbling attraction lasted about 10 minutes, but the gills didn’t start dispersing away from beneath my hole for at least an hour. After 90 minutes, I fired the second one down the hole and you betcha, the crowd of bluegills returned like a hoard of holiday shoppers on Black Friday!
So currently I’m all stocked up for this coming hardwater season as I can confirm, that it does certainly do what it is supposed to do but now it’s up to me to catch the fish which is yet another, whole different story.
If you haven’t tried BaitCloud yet, this winter’s hardwater season couldn’t be more perfect to do so. They aren’t expensive and they absolutely bring out the curiosity in fish. Available through many dealers across North America and the BaitCloud website. www.baitcloud.com
