A Little Gun Rap From Dan – Part 14

OTW Red Dot sights, Umarex USA, Inc. , LaserLyte, and Gamo Outdoor USA Swarm Maxxim what else can you ask for. Keep on learning.

The wind chill is 10 to 15 below zero tonight, but I couldn’t wait to try out at least one of the OTW Red Dot sights that I have. So, I decided to bring in one of my “junk yard” targets and do some shooting in the house with my Umarex USA, Inc. NXG pump rifle.

Maximum distance in this small house is about 10 meters, so I went out as far as I could go, and shot from one end of the living room, through the hallway, and into my office.

I had already, “sort of”, sighted it in by the seat of my pants, and felt like I was pretty close to the spot. Unfortunately I couldn’t try the LaserLyte since there isn’t a way to fit it to a .177. Good thing I wasn’t off the paper with my adjustments with the area in which I was shooting.

My system of looking through the sight at my front sight and matching up the dot where I thought it should be, worked fairly well. Although I think it helped since I had been using the LaserLyte to adjust the others, and got a feel of where it should be to be on paper. As you can see I had a great grouping, even on the ones that were slightly off the center area before doing some fine tuning.

A lot of rounds were fired with 3 pumps, so I decided to go to 4, and those were the most accurate. Although, some of the center shots were with 3.

At one point I hit directly on another pellet that was in the center, and it sent if flying somewhere. Even Pepper had his ears perked up on that one, and looking at me as if to say, “think that is enough?”

I tried the red and green dot, and the red was definitely better for making better pinpoint shots. The green bloomed out a little too much over the entire black middle with it set on the 1 intensity as I used for the red. It could be my eyes, but not sure. The green is, however, meant to be used for bright sunlight, so not really an indoor use dot.

Anyway, it worked, and if I had been plinking it should have been making a lot of noise on metal, or knocking things over. Will be great on my new Sportsman’s Guide set of 22/pellet spinner and reset steel targets. They are small, but the red dot should put the shots on the mark.

Now I’m really anxious to see how the 22 rifles perform with the scopes and red dots that I sighted in with the LaserLyte.

Until next time, shoot safe and have a great day of plinking.

I’ve been shooting up the house a little bit more. This time it was with a Gamo Outdoor USA Swarm Maxxim which had a scope that I got messed up. So, had to do some re-sighting-in. That is where all the shots are that are to the outside of the middle.

After hitting center with the Swarm I decided to finish the center off with the rifle that I was using last night – the Umarex USA, Inc. NXG pump with the OTW Red Dot sight. It drilled out the center 3/8″ white dot from the 10 meter mark. There are about 10 shoots in the center hole, which started knocking out pellets that were already inside.

Only problem that I’m having is that the Red Dot scope slides back and forth. The DTP adaptors are not tightening down, or perhaps it is the scope’s mount that will not tighten them enough for the NXG. I’ve been told that the NXG has a strange rail that isn’t like other 3/8 dovetails. Guess I’ll find out more when I start shooting the same Red Dot scope on my Henry Repeating Arms Mare’s Leg that has a 3/8″/10mm dovetail rail. The other OTW Red Dot is mounted on the Ruger 10/22, which has a completely different type of rail, like a hybrid Rimfire/Picatinny.

Until next time, shoot safe and have a great day of plinking.
