A Little Gun Rap From Dan – Part 21

A while back I purchased a Do-All Outdoors Blast Back Target set from Sportsman’s Guide. Today I finally got around to assembling it.

I hope it works better than the assembly. There are two bolts that are next to impossible to get the nut on, and whatever you do don’t use a box wrench, as when you do, and have the bolt tightened from the otherside, you can’t remove the wrench. The only way that it can be started is by feel, and then use an open end wrench to hold the nut while using a ratchet on the bolt head.

The other problem was the legs not wanting to go into place properly to be level. I finally got it, but they had to be loosened and repositioned at least 10 times.

I didn’t bother with attaching the stick-on targets, as you are just shooting at the metal plates anyway. First you shoot the two orange, and then shoot the black to reset it so you can go at it again.

Next is to actually test it. Doing it manually it seems to work nicely, but I don’t think Sportsman’s Guide’s answer to one person is correct. They said that it should work with a high enough powered pellet gun, although it is advertised as for 22 and 17 only with soft lead bullets. To me the spring seems too strong. I’ll test it with my Gamo Outdoor USA Swarm and Umarex USA, Inc. NXG pumped to different amounts to see if any of the velocities will work. In fact, I think it will be another Shoot ‘N’ Plink™ video.

By now everyone knows my love for the small Browning 1911 models. Today, for the first time, I was able to get my hands on the smallest model, a 1911-22 Grey Compact, after picking it up at my FFL dealer – B&B Hardware in Milan, IL.

Although it has the fiber optic sights like a Grey, it don’t have the same coloring of my A1 1911-22 Grey, so will be checking to see if this has changed. Either way it is a nice looking and feeling gun.

The photo shows the comparison of a full size M1911, 1911-22 A1 and the Compact.

The Compact weighs in at 13 ounces.

I’m going to be shooting this side by side with the A1 Grey, and see how it does on accuracy. Hopefully this will be the printed and video versions of Shoot ‘N’ Plink™, so stay tuned for more, including any information that I find out about from my Browning PR contact.
