A Little Gun Rap From Dan – Part 9

Three Part Article: Targets4Free.com & B27 target to Firefly/SIG Mosquito, Swarm Maxxim & Evil Roy to finally the Ruger 10/22 Compact.

People have asked what can they use to practice for their qualifying for the CCW other than purchasing a full size B27 target. Well, it isn’t the full size, but can be great for practicing.

Targets4Free.com has a free miniature B27. It prints on a single sheet of paper. The real B27 is around 45 inches tall, so you can see the difference. However, if you practice on this smaller version and can place all of your shots inside of the 7 ring, then once you are shooting to qualify you should be able to lay all of your shots into the center (X) and 9 ring area of the real B27.

Here is a tip when printing one of these. Save the PDF to a folder. Then print it using the draft setting on your printer. It will save in, and the target will dry flatter.

This is also a good target to use indoors with an airgun. In fact, it is a good one for practice with a pistol like the Umarex USA, Inc. S&W MP40, which is extremely realistic, right down to the blowback, teardown lever, safety, slide and slide lock. Even the weight is comparable to the real thing. There are several of Umarex’s replica models that would work well.

Until next time, shoot safe and have a great day of plinking.

I was looking at the back area of Dan Galusha Productions’ You Tube channel, where I can analyze how different products and subjects are fairing. Fishing is the number one overall, but on the shooting end of things there are three firearms that have shot up like rockets, and passing everything.

They are:
1. American Tactical Firefly/SIG Mosquito
2. Gamo Outdoor USA Swarm Maxxim
3. Henry Repeating Arms Evil Roy

All three of these products, within just a few months, have gone past videos that have been on the channel for 6 years.

I have four videos touching on the Firefly, and all have been climbing quickly. However, the fastest “rocket” is the Gamo airgun.

Recently I filmed a video using the Ruger 10/22 Compact model with the fiber optic sights. At that time I said the next video might be with a scope. Well, Sportsman’s Guide had a sale on a scope and boresight kit. So I ordered both.

I’ve tried several boresight products, but have never been happy with them. I wanted to try one like this with the individual studs from .177 to 50 cal. I couldn’t find out from the information with the unit, but I’ve heard that when using this it is like sighting in at 25 yards. It is also said that it won’t put you at the pinpoint center of the target, but it will get a person on paper, which eliminates a lot of extra shots.

The sight and kit were delivered yesterday, and got to mess with it a little this afternoon. I noticed that the scope looked like it was mounted at a slight angle after placing it on the rifle, and the boresight target confirmed as much. It also indicated that if a shot had been fired it would have hit to the left of where the scope was aimed.

Before I forget, the Ruger comes with a dual mount. It will allow either Weaver or 3/8 rimfire scope mounts to be used. I was debating on which I was going to use since I had a set of see-through mounts for the 3/8 dovetail. However, once the mount is in place on the rifle it blocks the sights, so may has well use the scope with the Weavers.

Now that I sighted the scope according to the kit, I’ll see how it shoots as soon as I can get out.

The next thing is to shoot a video, and get some photos/material for an article.

Until next time, shoot safe and have a great day of plinking.
