Accu 177 Rifle

The other day I told you about the Gamo Outdoor USA rifle and pistol that I received. I haven’t had a chance to play with the pistol, but have messed around a little with the Accu 177 rifle.

As I first expected the fiber optic sights are very nice, but I decided to see what it would do with the scope that came with it. Within 4 shots I had it hitting the center mark at 10 meters.

I would suggest that Gamo uses a see-through scope mount so that the fiber optic sights could also be used without removing the scope. However, I see why they use the low profile mounts since there is a pin that sets into a hole in the top of the rifle. This holds it in place from the recoil, of which there is quite a bit.

It would also me nice if the scope came with metal caps on the adjustment screws like the scope that came with the Gamo Swarm. The plastic caps work on the one, but the other keeps cross threading, and don’t want to tighten properly.

Another problem is the loading chamber. If the pellet isn’t seated perfectly the skirt will be flattened by the rotating loading chamber. It is a bit difficult at times to place the pellet where it should be before closing the “gate”. Because of that I’ve had a few misfired shots where they don’t reach the target.

By the way, the actual velocity rating is 920. The 1,200 is with the PDA Platinum pellets, which at this point I will not be testing. I’m using RWS wadcutter, and Crossman wadcutter and pointed.

In many ways the Swarm has the Accu 177 beaten, but time will tell. It is heavier, weighing in at 6.6 pounds.

Soon I will be filming a video on the Accu 177 rifle and PT-85 pistol. First I want a little time to try the PT-85 in advance, and get a good idea of what it will do, plus some information for the video and future articles.

Until next time, shoot safe and have a great day of plinking.
