 Fourteen USA Shooting airgun athletes will close out the month competing overseas in the Meyton Cup in Innsbruck, Austria tomorrow through Tuesday, and later at the International Competition Munich (IWK) January 29 – 31 in Munich, Germany. The Meyton Cup
will feature two days of competition for Open and Junior division rifle and pistol athlete with Finals each day. Nearly 400 shooters are expected to shoot in this competition. The International Competition Munich (IWK) – perhaps more known as the Bavarian Airgun Championships because it serves as the Airgun Championships for the German state of Bavaria – is historically one of the most strongly-contested events outside of the European World Cups and often features world-record level performances each year. Competition will also include two days of matches with Finals each day for Juniors and Open. More than 1,000 athletes are expected to compete in this event. The U.S. highlight of last year’s Bavarian Airgun Championships came from Junior National Team member Alana Townsend (Kalispell, Montana, pictured) who qualified for her first international Final in Junior Women’s Air Pistol. This year Townsend will compete in the Open division alongside Air Pistol National Champion Courtney Anthony (Lexington, Nebraska). Winter Airgun Championshipswinner Lydia Paterson (Kansas City, Kansas) will also compete in Junior Women’s Air Pistol. At last year’s Bavarian Airgun Championships,Air Pistol National Champion James Henderson (Midland, Georgia/U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit) was shooting in just his first international match and was the top U.S. finisher in ninth place. In 2014, he also won silver at the Winter Airgun Championships, as well as a bronze medal at the Championship of the Americas (CAT Games) in Guadalajara, Mexico. He will be joined on the line by USAMU teammate Greg Markowski (Fort Benning, Georgia), 2012 Olympian Nick Mowrer (Butte, Montana) and Winter Airgun Championships winner Will Brown (Twin Falls, Idaho). In Air Rifle, the men will be represented by Bryant Wallizer (Little Orleans, Maryland), Daniel Lowe (Olympia Washington/USAMU) and CAT Games gold medalist Dempster Christenson (Sioux Falls, South Dakota). William Anti (Colorado Springs, Colorado) will shoot in the Junior Men’s Air Rifle events. Women’s Air Rifle National Champion Dacotah Faught (Amenia, North Dakota) will be the lone U.S. competitor in the Women’s Air Rifle events. Rachel Martin (Peralta, New Mexico) and 15-year-old Sarah Osborn (Hampton, Virginia) will compete in Junior Women’s Air Rifle.
