Alex Zapata recently returned from a trip to Colombia where he caught this 7.48 kg (16 lb 8 oz) speckled peacock (Cichla temensis) on only 3 kg (6 lb) tippet, which could earn him the new world record for this tippet class. Zapata was fishing the Rio Mataveni,
in southern Colombia on March 29th when the peacock crushed the streamer fly he was casting. The fish put up a tough 15 minute fight before Zapata could subdue it, which he quickly documented before releasing it alive. The current IGFA record is 6.8 kg (15 lb).
