Atlantic Salmon Conservation Announcement. It’s always nice to announce that we’ll have more money available for groups working to preserve wild Atlantic salmon populations and habitat. In the next round of grants an extra $100k to be divided across provinces and to the inter-provincial projects. This is a fair jump from the $300,000 we’ve been offering annually since the Foundation was established in 2007. So, beginning in 2014 we want you to send us more, really good projects. They can be large in scale too and be multi-year projects. On a go forward basis, we are especially interested in projects built upon close partnerships among community groups, First Nations, science and other partners working to restore and protect local rivers.
Because of good management and good returns on our trust fund we expect available funds each year to increase quickly to $1 million a year by 2019. On top of this our partnerships with Alcool NB Liquor and PEI Liquor Commission make even more funding available in those provinces. We trust this good news will enable your group and the Foundation to make yet greater gains in conservation. As always, we’re here to help you.
Yours in conservation,
Stephen Chase, Executive Director
