WHO IS DOUG POIRIER
Doug Poirier has been fishing for over 32 years. Growing up in the Muskoka Region Doug learned to fish at a young age from his father and Great Grandmother.
Doug is experienced and knowledgeable about fishing equipment, baits, and techniques for many species such as: Pike, Bass, Trout, Whitefish, Walleye, Perch and panfish.
Doug was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis in late 2009. Slowly Doug’s balance and leg strength have become worse and Doug now uses a Walker to get around.
This hasn’t slowed Doug down. Instead Doug has been fighting back against this disease and works to try and show others that life still goes on even with a disability.
Doug is the Director and Founder of Perchin for MS – Lake Simcoe’s Premier Ice Fishing Event and recently started The Power to Pursue – an organization aimed at encouraging and getting people with disabilities out fishing and hunting.
Today Doug is still actively fishing even with his disability. He competes in fishing tournaments and is on or around the water every chance he gets.
