Best Fall Crappie Tactic

Best Fall Crappie Tactic“Crappie don’t really migrate during fall, but they do spread out,” said Oklahoma crappie guide and tournament angler Todd Huckabee. “Instead of the big schools of fish holding at brushpiles, you get one here and one there. That’s one reason trolling crankbaits is good in fall.”

Trolling allows you to deliver baits to the maximum number of suspended fish in the shortest period of time, giving you good odds of triggering both hunger and reaction strikes from at least some of those fish.

It’s also a good tactic any time the wind kicks up because the long lines absorb any rocking of the boat and you can use more trolling motor power or even the big motor to make precise trolling paths. Plus, you can watch your electronics and track your trolling paths while looking for interesting spots to check later with slower fishing tactics.
