I thought I would share with you my success over the last 8 years using the Bill Lewis Slapstick baits fishing exclusively for speckled trout on the Texas Coast. It has been a goal of mine for over ten years to break the Texas state trout record using light tackle. Eight years ago, I was introduced to the Slapstick bait by a guide fishing in Venice, LA. That day, we caught over 95 trout and redfish in what is still, to date, the single heaviest stringer of fish I have ever caught. I’ve had better quantity days, but never that quality size fish with several trout caught over 7 lbs.
On Monday August 6, 2013, I finally broke the long chased “30 inch” mark for speckled trout using the Chrome Black Back Slapstick. This is hands down the best bait that I have used in over 35 yrs. of saltwater fishing for catching large trout. Big fish love this bait’s action and slow rising ascension through the water column. I have committed to using this bait exclusively in my quest to break the record.
