An attempt by animal rights loons to stop Clay Logan from using a live animal in the New Year’s Eve Possum Drop in Brasstown, North Carolina, suffered a major setback Monday when a Wake County judge dismissed the case.
Logan and his wife Judy traveled to Raleigh to attend a legal proceeding which was set to “hear motions to dismiss a law suit” against Logan filed by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. The lawsuit was based on PETA’s allegations that lowering a live opossum at the New Year’s Eve event is an act of cruelty to animals.
The opossum is housed in a Plexiglass cage for about two hours and lowered about 18 feet at midnight. It is one of several activities during the New Year’s Eve Possum Drop at Clay’s Corner. The event averages a crowd of about 2,000. PETA had also filed a suit against the N.C. Wildlife Commission for issuing a wild animal captivity permit to Logan. More here…
