Ducks Unlimited would like to thank Bass Pro Shops and NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Tony Stewart for a great second-place finish at Daytona International Speedway during the Coke Zero 400. “Johnny Morris and Bass Pro Shops have always been great partners, and their generosity never ceases to amaze me,” said DU CEO Dale Hall. “The fact that they support DU’s mission speaks volumes about the company and their commitment to conservation.”
Thanks to a partnership with Bass Pro Shops, Stewart’s No. 14 Sprint Cup car was wrapped with DU’s logo to create exposure for its conservation mission. Stewart, the 2012 winner of the Coke Zero 400, raced under the lights at Daytona, finishing behind race winner Jimmie Johnson.
Stewart managed to miss several wrecks throughout the race and worked his way from the 25th spot at the halfway point to set up an impressive finish. After a red flag stopped the race with 10 laps left, Stewart broke away from the pack on the restart to set up an exciting shootout to the finish.
“I love the outdoors and everything that goes into maintaining the outdoors,” Stewart said. “Nurturing the land is as satisfying for me as hunting and fishing. Giving back is something that drives me, be it in racing or with the outdoors. In order for racing to be sustainable, we have to have younger generations get involved. It’s the same with the outdoors. In order for hunting and fishing to be sustainable, our land and wildlife needs to be managed and maintained, and that knowledge has to be passed on from one generation to the next. Ducks Unlimited does a great job in that regard, and we’re proud to have them with us at Daytona.”
The special logo wrap came as a surprise during Bass Pro founder John L. Morris’ speech to DU convention attendees earlier this year in Portland, Ore.
“Conservation is the only way we can ensure our grandchildren and their children will have the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors like our generation has, and Ducks Unlimited has been promoting conservation for the past 76 years,” Morris said. “It’s a tremendous organization with a great mission, and I’m proud to call myself a DU member.”
