Last week I said that I hoped that the Go Go Runners that Ron Stallings shipped in from TTI-Blakemore would break my streak of being “zeroed out” the last couple of fishing outings. Well they did.
On my third cast with a Emerald Minnow color in the 1/8 ounce Go Go Runner I had my first bass of the day. It was only around 12 inches, but still a bass. Then the wind started picking up so strong that the long casts to deep water were becoming increasingly impossible with the 1/8 ounce and the fact that my spinning reel is a little too low on line. So, I had to switch gears.
Rat-L-Traps have been working, and with colder water they work like the Blitz Lures LLC Blade. A few month ago Richard Broadwell of Bill Lewis Outdoors sent me some Bleeding Shiner Traps that have red spots and red hooks a lot like the Daiichi Bleeding Bait series. So, I decided to pull out one of the white ones, which has black stripes like white bass. The result was one nice crappie and two more bass.
The retrieve for the Go Go was a slow constant crank with a few pauses. As for the Rat-L-Trap I tried lift-and-fall, and a side sweep of about 3 feet with a pause to reel up the line. The side sweep worked for the other fish, and the hits came as the sweep was started after a pause.
That was it for the day, but at least I didn’t get zeroed out thanks to the Go Go Runner and Rat-L-Trap.
Thanks to Don Banning for taking the photo of me with the bass. This time I didn’t have to set up the camera and use the remote.
Until next time, get out on the water, and enjoy a great day of fishing.
