Safety on motor boats should be a primary focus when you hit the water. PERIOD! Bass boaters, speed boaters, fishing guides and all pleasure boaters should all be connected to a kill switch when their combustion engine is running. There are no excuse and really, if you are not, you are opening yourself up for a problem if an accident occurs. If the person driving the boat falls off the boat for any reason (they hit an object in the water, hit another boat, a giant wave, a boat hits them, etc.) the attached kill switch stops the boat engine from running. Stopping the boat engine is the most important thing that needs to happen when the boat is no longer being operated properly. Traditional kill switches attach a cord and kill switch key from the boat captain to the ignition console. When they separate the cord pulls the kill switch key from the console, turning off the boat engine. Many boaters never connect the kill switch key to the captain out of convenience and comfort, eliminating the safety devises use.
