Hunt Spy Drones?

Drone HuntingThe good folks of Deer Trail, Colo., are pondering whether to put a new city ordinance on the books that would offer drone hunting licenses, along with bounties for unmanned aerial vehicles flying over the town’s airspace.  According to ABC 7 News, although the townsfolk have not actually seen a drone flying overhead yet, some in their midst believe it will be the (air)wave of the future.

According to a Deer Trail resident, Phillip Steel, who drafted the ordinance, “This is a very symbolic ordinance. Basically, I do not believe in the idea of a surveillance society, and I believe we are heading that way.”

Seven town board members will vote on the ordinance on Aug. 6. The ordinance states that weapons allowed for drone hunting will include “any shotgun, 12 guage or smaller, having a barrel length of 18 inches or greater.” No background investigation will be required, and applicants must be at least 21 and speak and “understand” English.

Town Clerk Kim Oldfield wondered if the town might form a festival around drone hunting in the future. She said, “We’re the home of the world’s first rodeo, so we could be the home of the world’s first drone hunt.”

To some, it’s a laughable matter, but to a guy like Steel, it’s not too far from the truth of the future as he sees it.

How about you? Would you vote for a drone hunting license in your neck of the woods? See Video…..
