The new Leica V-Lux 4 unites a high-performance lens, outstanding image quality and superior speed in a handy format ideal for outdoor and wildlife photography. A wide range of video functions and an impressive feature package make it an extremely versatile and lightweight alternative to comparable SLR cameras.
The Leica V-Lux 4 features a newly designed and constructed Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 4.5-108 mm f/2.8 ASPH. 24-fold super-telephoto zoom lens with an enormous range of focal lengths equivalent to 25-600 mm in 35 mm format. This extremely flexible lens is ideal for shooting landscapes, travel and portraits, as well as distant wildlife.
The constant maximum aperture of f2.8 throughout the entire zoom range produces consistent, tack-sharp images at great distances, even under unfavorable lighting conditions. This super-fast lens and integrated optical image stabilization eliminates camera shake when shooting handheld.
A maximum ISO sensitivity of 6400 and a new 12-megapixel CMOS image sensor ensure outstanding images in all photographic situations and lighting conditions. Still pictures and video recordings captured by the V-Lux 4 boast high dynamic range and natural, perfectly saturated colors. The camera captures even the fastest-moving subjects in richly-detailed, crisp images. The Leica V-Lux 4’s autofocus reacts to changes within the image frame in less than a tenth of a second and makes it ideal for capturing sporting events and wildlife. Users also benefit when shooting continuous sequences in burst mode. The V-Lux 4 delivers up to 12 frames per second at full resolution.
Just like its predecessor, the Leica V-Lux 4 features an extensive range of video functions. The camera captures full HD video in AVCHD format with 1920 × 1080 pixels and 60 full frames per second. The entire 24-fold zoom range is available during video recording, and an integrated stereo microphone with an electronic wind noise filter guarantees a crystal-clear soundtrack. Video data can be saved in Internet-compatible MP4 format and can be uploaded directly to social media or mobile devices, for example, without any need for conversion.
The new electronic viewfinder, with a resolution of 1.4 megapixels and a 100″ field of view, is helpful for assessing subject framing and exposure settings. The new zoom function and diopter correction aids in image assessment as well. The settings and functions displayed on the monitor screen and in the viewfinder are identical.
The 3″ LCD display with 460,000 pixel resolution delivers an extremely bright and clear view. The monitor screen can be freely rotated in almost any direction and lets users shoot from even the most unusual angles, allowing maximum creative flexibility, whether shooting overhead or down close to the ground.
The Leica V-Lux 4’s compact size and easy handling make it ideal for field use. Its integrated handgrip keeps it steady in your hands, and its light weight even allows you to shoot one-handed. All of its controls are clearly laid out and simple to use.
The Leica V-Lux 4 will be available from authorized Leica dealers in November 2012 and is bundled with the intuitive Adobe® Photoshop Lightroom® 4 software for video and still image processing.
