The Shark’s Eye All-Release Tournament & Festival, a satellite tag, catch-and-release, big game sportfishing competition, combines science, conservation and informative entertainment focused on saving sharks July 11-13 in Montauk, N.Y. “There is no other fishing tournament like Shark’s Eye,” Guy Harvey, whose ocean foundation supports the event, said in a statement. “This tournament combines the thrill of shark fishing, practical conservation measures and meaningful fisheries research and community involvement into a single event. It is truly the future of shark-fishing tournaments.”
Team entries are being accepted for a maximum of 50 boats to compete for thousands in cash and prizes during the two-day tournament. The entry fee is $750 through May 1 and $950 after that date.
After its debut in 2013 the Shark’s Eye tournament at Montauk Marine Basin has become the only satellite tag, all-release shark tournament in the Northeast.
With a format designed to ensure the post-release welfare of all sharks caught, including rules requiring the mandatory use of circle hooks, heavy tackle and safe handling practices, it is recognized as one of the industry leaders for the next generation of shark-release tournaments.
“Great, competitive anglers make great tournaments, and we are excited to step up the level of participation and stakes this time around,” Shark’s Eye creator and organizer Carl Darenberg of Montauk Marine said.
