Major League Fishing – Maine’s Bass Bonanza

Major League Fishing Logo 2Mention the beautiful state of Maine to outsiders and a jumble of thoughts immediately come to mind. Such thoughts range from the state’s famed lobster industry to its vast forests to a myriad of wildlife including black bears, white-tailed deer and moose to spectacular fishing,

especially for brook trout in inland streams and striped bass along the rocky and salty coastline.

For many outside of the northeastern corner of the nation, however, one thing that may not readily come to mind in conversations about Maine is the state’s superb black bass fishing.

But such fishing should come to mind because the reality is that Maine supports some of the best bass fishing in the nation thanks to a big supply of pristine rivers, streams, natural lakes and man-made water bodies.

A collection of cabins and a beautiful lodge that occupy the rugged shoreline of a lake near Waterville, the “American Plan” camp has been family owned and operated since 1929. That gives Rice a unique perspective about how good the bass fishing on these picturesque Maine lakes has been over the years, especially for the bronzeback bomber, the smallmouth bass.

“I’m a smallmouth bass fisherman and I love the fishing on (these) lakes,” smiled Rice as he whipped up some pancakes – with freshly picked blueberries – for yours truly.
