Carbon Express, the leader in arrow technology, is pleased to announce that Pro Staff Shooter Martin Damsbo won the prestigious FITA World Championship, shooting the Nano Pro’s. Damsbo’s journey to the gold medal started with a quarter-final win over teammate Patrick Laursen, who had defeated him at the Antalya World Cup earlier this year. Thanks to a perfect first end, Damsbo took a two-point advantage, giving him the win (143 – 141).
In the semi-finals, Damsbo took on local archer Dominique Genet, who had just upset the number one ranked archer in the world, Reo Wilde. Scoring two ends of 30 points each, Damsbo scored a convincing victory over Genet (147 – 143).
A familiar foe was waiting for Damsbo in the finals, Braden Gellenthien, the successful shooter who was winner of the Tokyo World Cup Final last year, after notching silvers in 2007, 2009 and 2010. This was the third time that Damsbo and Gellenthien faced each other this year, with each individual winning one.
Spectators were in for a treat with a very tight match, with the competitors going arrow-for-arrow in the first three ends. After holding a one-point lead for a short time, Damsbo was in need of a final 10 to tie and force a shoot-off, in which he did. In the shoot-off, Gellenthien opened things up with a 9, Damsbo kept his foot on the accelerator and notched a perfect 10 giving him his first victory on the big stage since 2010.
2013 will be year to remember for Damsbo, who climbed the podium several times, including a 2nd at Shanghai, 3rd at Antalya (1st as a team) and 5th at the World Games. Martin will now take sight on the upcoming World Championships, where his best prior finish was a bronze medal in 2007.
