Mercury Marine’s recently introduced lineup of four-stroke marine oils is the new top choice for protection on the water. The new simplified lineup replaces Mercury’s previous four-stroke oil family. The use of a quality engine oil is critical to maintaining engine performance and reliability. The new lineup of oil from Mercury sets the new standard in wear protection, shear stability and corrosion defense. Mercury four-stroke oils exceed NMMA FC-W requirements, surpassing other marine engine oils on the market.
Mercury’s 25W-40 Synthetic Blend headlines the new Mercury four-stroke lineup. After five years of engineering and development by the largest marine engine manufacturer in the world, this premium oil is approved for use in all four-stroke marine engines, including the Mercury Verado family of outboards, MerCruiser sterndrives and all other Mercury and competitive four-stroke marine engines.
Mercury 25W-40 Synthetic Blend is made with high-quality base oils without viscosity modifiers, so it is highly-resistant to shear and breakdown. In high-load testing it retained 99.4 percent of its viscosity (oil strength), significantly better than other marine oils tested.* (ASTM D-6278; ASTM D-445) In high-temperature shear stability testing the oil proved to be 40 percent stronger than the next best marine oil, 56 percent stronger than automotive oil and 34 percent stronger than NMMA FC-W minimum requirements. (Kurt-Orbahn Shear Stability Test ASTM D-6278)
All Mercury four-stroke marine oils feature Mercury’s new Flagship Protection additive package, which has been thoroughly tested and proven to offer 33 percent better camshaft wear protection (ASTM D-6891 Test Sequence IV cam wear limits). Finally, Mercury developed an exclusive corrosion protection package with twice the surface corrosion protection compared to other marine oils and passenger car motor oil.
“Whether it’s one of our Mercury engines or any other marine engine in which our oil is used, we want our customers to have the best experience possible,” said Eric Reilley, product manager, Mercury Oils and Lubricants. “That’s why when we set out to develop new four-stroke oil we made sure it would be hands-down the best oil you can put in your Mercury Marine engine.”
