Nikon announces the introduction of its new EDG VR 85 Fieldscope-the world’s first Fieldscope featuring Nikon’s lens-shift type VR (Vibration Reduction) system*. Based on the technologies developed for the Nikon NIKKOR VR camera lenses, the new EDG VR 85 Fieldscope reduces image vibrations and blur during observation to approx. 1/8 and allows an equivalent shutter speed of two stops faster in digiscoping**.
To create this new optical masterpiece, Nikon has combined sophisticated optical technologies with extreme VR (Vibration Reduction). With Nikon’s superior chromatic-aberration compensation system of ED glass elements with advanced apochromat, field-flattener lens system, advanced multilayer lens and prism coatings and Nikon’s original VR system, the new EDG VR 85 is a one-of-a-kind Fieldscope for optics connoisseurs and photographers looking for maximum focal length.
According to Nikon, EDG VR (Vibration Reduction) greatly reduces external vibrations caused by wind and the operational vibrations occurring during focusing, panning and tilting on a tripod for a superlative viewing experience.
This system uses two independent Angular Velocity sensors to detect pitching (vertical movement) and yawing (horizontal movement). Both sensors then detect diagonal movements. Upon the detection of movement, the sensors provide instructions to the two Voice Coil Motors (VCM) that command and control the Vibration Reduction-optical system to eliminate the shake or blurring. These sensors are capable of detecting movement every 1/1000 second.
Available in a straight or angled body, the all-new EDG VR Fieldscope comes standard with a 20-60x Zoom Eyepiece and features a five-meter close focus distance and waterproof, fogproof construction. Weighing in at just over 84 ounces (w/o batteries), Nikon’s newest EDG has a length of 14.9 inches in the straight body and 15.7 inches in the angled version. Weight and size combine to create a portable yet very stable viewing platform.
Nikon’s VR system operates with four AA batteries and generates approximately 17 hours••• of battery life with regular alkaline and up to 32 hours with lithium. An auto power-off function works to conserve battery life.
Digiscoping with the EDG VR 85 allows users to capture breathtaking moments at great distances and with great detail. The FSA-L2 attachment quickly and easily connects a Nikon Digital SLR camera to the Fieldscope for comfortable shooting and stunning photos and video.
The FSA-L2 adapter provides a 3.5x zoom capable of delivering a focal length range from 500mm to 1,750mm (FX Format) or 750mm to 2,625mm (DX Format) with either Metered Manual or Aperture-Priority Auto Mode-previously unheard-of magnification in the world of digital photography.
Available at Authorized Retailers now, the 85mm EDG VR in either body style will retail for $5,499.95, with eyepiece and protective, view-through case.
