For 120 years, expert craftsmen from Old Town Canoes & Kayaks in Old Town, Maine have built some of the world’s finest watercraft. Now, the veteran watercraft engineers at Old Town are once again leading the way in forward-thinking design with two new touring kayaks debuting at Outdoor Retailer.
The new touring series focused on fit and comfort, make their debut at the renowned Outdoor Retailer expo July 26-29, and provide all the benefits of a traditional touring kayak in a more comfortable, user-friendly package. Both solve an age-old conundrum of avid kayakers: how to find a custom fit touring kayak at a reasonable price.
Custom Fit Castine
The first new creation, dubbed Castine, after a ship-building hamlet on the Maine coast, pays tribute to the rich history of the area by offering the comfort and feel of a custom-built boat and the latest in kayak design.
The Old Town Castine day touring kayak comes in three different sizes, making it easier to find a model that fits just right. The models gently tip the scales at 50-, 53-, and 56 pounds, respectively—giving boaters of any stature the ability to easily transport to-and-from the water. And, with ACS2, the most comfortable kayak seat in the industry, Castine gives every boater the customizable back and leg support needed to tour far and wide all day.
All models feature removable day storage on a sliding track for easy access when seated, and a phone cradle for use while out on the water. Sealed compartments are located in the bow and stern for dry storage. All three models have generous legroom. Available in four popular colors: Lemongrass, Sunrise, Black Cherry, and Cloud.
Super Versatile Sorrento
40 miles west of Castine, Old Town engineers found inspiration for the second day-touring kayak making its debut at Outdoor Retailer — the Sorrento.
The hard-working coastal Maine community of Sorrento lends its name to an equally hard-working kayak. The versatile Old Town Sorrento features a drop-down skeg to help paddlers of all levels track like an arrow – but also allows retraction for more maneuverability in shallow waters.
This kayak’s adaptability makes it perfect for the beginner or intermediate paddler.
The Sorrento comes in two sizes, the 106sk and the 126sk. Just like the Castine, the Sorrento features ACS2 seating for supreme comfort, and a sealed stern compartment for dry storage. Available in four colors: Lemongrass, Sunrise, Black Cherry, and Cloud. Both Sorrento models weigh less than 51 pounds.
Together, Castine and Sorrento look to pay homage to their Acadian beginnings, and bring adventure to waters across the world.
