By Jeff Samsel. Asher and I did our final preparation today, finishing packing our bags, gathering other gear and loading it all into the Fiesta. I have to admit that as the piles grew on the dining room table, I questioned whether it would all fit.
It did, though, and even with room for the float tubes, camping gear and other things we will pick up when we visit Cabela’s Worldwide Headquarters in a few days.
Part of the final-day’s task was building Asher a Dry Run Creek box. It started with Rebel Micro Crawfish, Micro Minnows and Micro Crickhoppers, which I believe will be key lures for him, and which are already Dry Run ready because each comes with a barbless single hook. However, we also changed hooks on several Wee Crawfish, Teeny Wee Crawfish and Crickhoppers, and then pinched down the barb on each.
The plan is to leave early – way early – so we can get to Dry Run Creek at a good time tomorrow afternoon, and so Asher will have plenty of time to fish this special-regulations stream that he has heard so much about from his older brother Nathaniel. Since I’ve been to Dry Run several times with Nathaniel, I didn’t have to do any extra research. Water levels and competition from other young anglers can affect the bite and the total opportunity, but neither would change our plan for the day.
