The two September elk hunters took impressive bulls, one just after the hunt opened Monday and the other near dark on Tuesday, the second day of the scheduled five-day hunt.
Both hunters worked the Richland Valley area in western Searcy County near the Buffalo National River.
Brent Hohenstein of Searcy downed an elk with a highly unusual rack (antlers). It was a 6×11, meaning 6 points on one side and 11 on the other. The 11 points was a record for Arkansas elk hunting.
Allyn Ladd of Camden was unusual in his hunt also. He used a bow. Ladd got a 6×6 bull on the evening of the second day.
