Part punk rock, part disco, Custom Jigs & Spins’ latest tungsten ice jig is a real attention-getter. New for the 2018 ice season, the Glazba (pron. glahz-bah) has a ton of attitude in a compact tungsten body.
“Chekai and I were looking for a name that summed up everything this jig does. Its jeweled-head is like a mini disco ball that attracts fish from a good distance, but the way it’s balanced also makes it easy to rock in place,” says Custom Jigs & Spins’ marketing director, Walt Matan.
The jig-designing duo settled on calling the new tungsten jig “Glazba,” which translates from Croatian to English as “music” and rhymes with the title of The Clash’s chart-topping 1982 single, “Rock the Casbah.”
Matan laughs, “Chekai and I couldn’t stop singing ‘Rock the Glazba’ as we fished it last winter – be glad you weren’t there! The Glazba flat-out rocks for attracting fish and getting them on the ice!”
Beta-tester “Panfish” Phil Laube agrees. The avid Minnesota ice angler tested the Glazba in a wide range of hardwater panfish scenarios last winter. This video demonstrates one such foray.
“The Glazba’s crystal nose is really good at picking up and refracting light, from clear waters to tannin-stained lakes,” says Laube. “The Glazba fishes awesome during the day – then, if you use one of the glow finishes, you’ve got that one jig that does it all on ‘gills and crappies from full sun through nighttime bites.”
The Glazba is also designed for optimal hooksets. It features a front-loaded, diamond-shaped body, 30-degree hook angle, and an ultra-sharp Japanese hook.
“The way the Glazba’s balanced, I can get it to kick a larvae or plastic tail without too much movement, which is critical on finicky ‘gills and crappies. Then, once a fish inhales the bait, it stays buttoned. That hook is sticky sharp,” says Laube.
Currently, the Custom Jigs & Spins Glazba is available in size 12, 10, and 8, and eight glow and non-glow finishes, including Clown Tiger, Chartreuse Tiger Glow, Purple Tiger, Firetiger, Perch Tiger, Blue Tiger Glow, Orange Tiger, and Pink Tiger Glow. And at $2.50 MSRP per jig, ice anglers can build a nice arsenal of sizes and colors without breaking the bank.
