As an “Entrepreneur-in-Residence” in the Center for Entrepreneurship in the College of Business (COB) at James Madison University (JMU), Kevin Tucker, owner of SOLitude Lake Management, an industry leader in lake and pond management, fisheries management and related environmental services for the Eastern United States, and a 1993 graduate of the COB, has donated his time to his alma mater’s emerging business leaders. His time on campus is spent visiting business classes and speaking to students, collaborating with professors, providing one-on-one mentoring with venture creation groups, and holding open office hours.
In addition to being an Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Kevin has also mentored students in the Venture Creation class. In this course, students created business plans for a potential new business.
Kevin’s interest in participating in the COB’s programs stems from his fondness for JMU and the faculty. After his first time as a mentor in the Venture Creation course and being back on a campus that was special to him, Kevin knew he had connected with a few students and hoped to be able to help inspire them as entrepreneurs.
“I enjoy helping the university provide students with a great opportunity to learn from alumni,” said Kevin. “We have a common bond through our connection to the university, and now I have a personal one with each student I encounter.”
Kevin noted that the upcoming generation of entrepreneurs and business leaders will be prepared for the quick pace of moving an idea from conception and evaluation to execution. “Things move fast in today’s technology based world, but as always, a planned and successful execution will set those apart from the ideas that come and go and are never executed.”
