As normal, it was another short day of shooting and fishing.
First I took my scoped Henry Repeating Arms Frontier out to adjust the scope. After placing 15 shots in a grouping of about 3 inches on a paper target, I reloaded and shot 15 more rounds, which hit all 15 Do-All Outdoors knockout disc and bowling pin targets, so I knew that the scope was adjusted and doing its job.
Next project is a red dot sight on the Henry Evil Roy.
After shooting I went to a different lake and fished for a couple of hours. Bass are still hitting the Blitz Lures LLC Blade in the new Spotted Goby color, and the shad colored Natural Forage Baits Swim Bait, but a slower. This means the retrieve has to be slowed, or pumped over deep weed beds. The strikes were like “hang ups” in the weeds, but once on the fight was strong. They were also taking the lures deeper.
I caught some nice size fish, with one being large enough that it broke off one of my Blitz Blades. Yes, it was a bass as I had him about to my hand when the line snapped. I don’t follow my own preaching – “be sure to retie, especially when fishing weeds, brush and catching some nice size fish”.
Be sure to check out my Fish ‘N’ Tales column in this Saturday’s Quad-City Times‘ Outdoors Page. It will be giving you some gift ideas for the outdoors people on your list.
Until next time, get out on the water, and enjoy a great day of fishing.
