Tohatsu America Corp. will begin offering through its dealer network 4-stroke engines from 60 to 250 hp in January. The eight new outboards — 60-, 75-, 90-, 115-, 150-, 200-, 225- and 250-hp models — are manufactured by Honda and rebranded under the Tohatsu name, Kurt Gardener, national sales manager for Tohatsu America Corp., told Trade Only Today this morning.
Tohatsu will continue to offer its TLDI 2-stroke outboards from 40 to 115 hp and low-horsepower 4-strokes from 2.5 to 30 hp. Tohatsu manufactures those engines.
Details were minimal, but Tohatsu officials did say the new engines will be shown at the Miami International Boat Show in February.
“We don’t even know all the details yet,” Gardener said. “We do know we are going to get the engines in January. And we have until January to iron out all the kinks — to get parts and service ready. So we have a lot of work to do. It’s an exciting time.”
Tohatsu will back all of its engines with a 5-year manufacturer’s warranty. Tohatsu America Corp. will distribute the new engines in the United States only, Tohatsu advertising and marketing coordinator Sarah Webb said.
“We are very excited to be able to offer a full line of outboards for 2014, something our loyal dealer network has been requesting for many years,” Tohatsu America president Hiroshi Wakabayashi said in a statement. “By adding the 60-hp to 250-hp 4-stroke outboards to our current line of award-winning motors, Tohatsu now caters to all types of boating needs.”
