Having a shortened bass season compared to the rest of North America, Canadian anglers are definitely at a disadvantage when it comes to the available time on the water, as well as the experience of fishing all four seasons. With that said, like many other sports, Canada is starting to produce some of the best athletes in the world and fishing is no different. The internet has allowed anglers in the Northern states and Canada to continue their development in the sport of fishing even throughout the cold winter months.
With the popularity of FLW and BASS growing bigger than ever, there are opportunities for anglers all over North America to travel throughout the United States and fish either as a Pro or a Co-Angler.
Recently, Rahfish.com caught up with Canadian television show host, Bob Izumi. Bob Izumi’s Real Fishing Show, has been airing for nearly three decades and during this time, Izumi has fished all over the world. Throughout his busy schedule filming, speaking at seminars, as well as organizing a plethora or charity events with his staff, Izumi has managed to find time to fish the FLW Tour.
Now that so many Northern anglers are chomping at the bit to fish a higher level of tournament, we sat down with Izumi and got his insight on the differences of tournament fishing in Canada versus the US.
“Fishing pressure is probably the most obvious thing,” explains Izumi. “The pressure is probably tenfold what it is in Canada. When you visit a place like Gunterville during the week there could be hundreds of boats on the water; fish there on a weekend and there might be thousands of boats out there.
