Biscayne National Park’s plan to close over 10,000 acres to recreational fishing is the latest example of a broader issue of public waters being unnecessarily closed. Fortunately, Congress has stepped in with a bipartisan bill that will help stop this type of unwarranted closure. Led by Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Mario Diaz-Balart, and Carlos Curbelo, the Preserving Public Access to Public Waters Act would require those trying to close state waters to first get approval from that state’s fish and wildlife agency.
While Biscayne National Park is in Florida, this is an issue of national importance.
No matter where you live, whether you fish in Florida or not, you can stop this type of closure from happening in your back yard. Send a message to your Representative today asking him or her to support HR 3310.
