Bradford ON: On Friday May 1st award winning outdoor writer and well known fishing seminar host Wil Wegman, will be presenting “Fishing Lake Simcoe … Understanding this ever changing lake to catch more fish Spring Summer and Fall.” The free seminar will begin at 7pm at the Bradford Community Centre on 125 Simcoe Road – beside the Bradford Curling Club. Topics will include a look at the top gamefish in the lake; including largemouth and smallmouth bass, northern pike, yellow perch, whitefish and lake trout. Guests will acquire a better understanding of the seasonal movements of these fish as well as learn several tactics and techniques to catch them. As an added bonus, a special feature will look at the shore fishing opportunities of the Holland River right around Bradford.
At 8:30 pm following Wil’s presentation– president of the Barrie Bassmasters, guide and Lowrance/Navionics rep Gerry Heels will be up. His talk is entitled “ Maximizing and Understanding Sonar, GPS and Digital Charts to catch more fish” . A full Question/Answer period will follow both presentations.
This informative and entertaining evening is presented by the Town of Bradford and brought to you by Simcoe County Tourism. There is no admission fee however guests are encouraged to bring a supply of non-perishable food items for the local Bradford Food Bank. About Wil Wegman:
Wil has written about, worked on and fished Lake Simcoe extensively since the mid 1980’s. For more than two decades he taught bass fishing courses at various campuses of Seneca and Georgian College. Wil is an avid tournament angler and won his first professional bass tournament on Lake Simcoe in 1994. Since then he has qualified three times for Team Ontario (one of which was on Lake Simcoe) and has qualified to fish several tournaments in the US. Wil is the Conservation Director for the Aurora Bassmasters and is the only two-time recipient of the Bill Bond Memorial Award … for his dedication to conserving and promoting the fishery of Lake Simcoe. His magazine articles … many of which are on fishing Lake Simcoe, have appeared in Outdoor Canada, Ontario Out of Doors, Real Fishing, Just Fishing and in US publications like BASS TIMES, Bassmaster Magazine, and In Fisherman. For many years he also wrote a regular outdoors column in local newspapers which highlighted Lake Simcoe Fishing Opportunities. He has appeared as a guest on several TV Fishing Shows, including several episodes of Angler and Hunter and Bob Izumi’s Real Fishing Show.
Wil is recognized as a true ambassador to the sport of fishing. Promoting recreational fishing opportunities and sound conservation practices like catch and release and selective harvest is at the cornerstone of his talks and outdoor writing.
