Anglers For ConservationWorking with Anglers for Conservation since its conception has been an eye opening experience. There are many business responsibilities and mundane tasks involved in creating a sound foundation for an upstart non-profit organization.Recruiting, training and satisfying the needs of community volunteers along with retaining them is an important part of any charitable institution.

Because of the interaction between the recreational fishing community and young families living within those communities, many volunteers become active participates in AFC’s educational programs including Hook Kids on Fishing (HKOF) and Advanced Teen Angler Camps.

Anglers For Conservation
During the next several months we’ll be conducting these programs from the Florida Keys to Florida’s Panhandle. Participating in one of these positive and rewarding educational events is equally good for the students and volunteers.

There are a multiple reasons volunteers benefit by helping conduct and teach these educational programs: They give back to their community; they help protect traditional family values, and they help better protect and sustain the future of fishing by teaching the students to practice conservation-wise fishing.

But from my experience, the best reasons to volunteer, are the big smiles and happy expressions on their faces.

Hook Kids on Fishing Programs are happening NOW!

Mention AFC and most people think of Hook Kids On Fishing.  It is our longest standing and most popular community outreach program. Kids between 6-16 years of age engage in learning stations that help them understand the fundamentals of fishing and conservation. Thanks to Fish Florida, the AFC has been able to give away thousands of rods and tackle boxes over the years. Check out this list of upcoming HKOF programs near you. If you don’t have a HKOF program in your area, let us know so we can do our best to make one happen. The future depends on younger generations so sign up today to get your kids hooked on fishing.
